PARTICIPATION OF CHEESES IN THE WORLD CHEESE AWARDS COMPETITION
FOR THE FIRST TIME, UKRAINIAN CHEESE MAKERS WILL BE ABLE TO PASS THE SELECTION TO THE 50 BEST OF UKRAINE AND BECOME PARTICIPANTS IN THE PRESTIGIOUS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR FREE. ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS is completed
WHAT DOES PARTICIPATION MEAN TO YOU?
The entry fee for one cheese item in the competition is £52. However, this year the organizers of the WCA (World Cheese Awards) offered 50 Ukrainian cheesemakers to enter as participants without a contribution.
You only need to prepare the necessary technical documents and select the cheese for presentation and tasting. We take care of the rest.
People trust authority, and the World Cheese Awards is one of the most famous and largest cheese competitions in the world. Cheesemakers who are constantly improving their own products get there. If you pass the expert selection and become one of the 50 participants, this is already an opportunity to earn an advantage over other cheeses in the eyes of future customers.
In 2021, cheesemakers presented more than 4,000 cheeses at the WCA. Bronze, silver and gold medals were awarded by the best judges from around the world. Such awards can be placed on cheese packages and demonstrate its recognition by top experts.
In 2021, the competition was visited by 10,000 consumers, including chain buyers looking for new products for their cheese spaces. In addition, professional judges from different countries discover new cheeses during the event and talk about them to their audience of cheese lovers.
ProCheese will cover the competition in Ukrainian multi-disciplinary media and specialized business media. Also, your cheese will be included in the brochure “Cheese Guide to Ukraine” in electronic and printed formats, which will be distributed at international events.
YOU CAN ENTER THE TOP 50 IF:
1.you have the necessary documentation that confirms the quality of the products, namely:
- Expert opinion
- Production certification according to the ISSO 2200 / Halal safety system
- Manufacturer’s declaration
- Production permit
2. fill out the form with a description of your cheese and provide its photo You can submit more than 1 cheese. You can send one form with a description of several cheeses, or several forms for each cheese separately.

How will the cheese be chosen for the competition?
Our cheese expert Oksana Chernova, who is an official judge of the competition and knows what it takes to have a product to compete on the world stage, will pay attention to*:
- taste description
- aroma description
- texture description
- description of the crust
- type of milk
- type of enzyme
- additions to cheese
- ripening technology
- environmental friendliness of raw materials (distance from industrial zones, with which animals were fed, free grazing of animals or not)
- traditions of generations
- own farm
- the possibility of covering additional volumes for sale
- seasonality of production
* They are not mandatory. You can apply without the historical aspect of the product and your own farm.
If there are more than 50 applications, these criteria will be given more weight
The World Cheese Awards is the continent’s largest and most prestigious cheese competition. Entries to participate in it are sent from all over the world.
ProCheese is a Ukrainian community that brings together businesses and people interested in cheese. Our mission is the formation of cheese culture in Ukraine and the creation of an ecosystem that unites those who make, sell and buy cheese.
How do we help in the competition?
- We conduct expert selection
The professional who chooses the best Ukrainian cheese for participation is Oksana Chernova, one of the WCA judges, who has been on the jury for the 5th year.
- We take on the difficulties and organization of transportation
Transportation is free. We collect cheeses in our own warehouse in Ukraine, take them to Slovakia to the second distribution center and export them to Newport – the city where the WCA will be held.
I WANT TO BE THE BEST
Yes, it is possible. However, we will make sure that their number is proportional to the number of those sent by other participants.
